Society Building and Mental Health

Society Building and Mental Health

We are all noticing that accomplishing proper mental health is not an individual task. The trends in society and the manipulation of segments of it have a direct correlation to our own individual health. We are seeing how concerns about justice, sexuality, spirituality, morality, economics have direct correlations to the broader concept of mental health. In the past two decades there was an emphasis on solving the brain malfunction leading to complete eradication of psychiatric illnesses!! Fortunately we’re beginning to move away from this reductionist and simplistic approach and beginning to see that there are much bigger forces interacting at various levels. I like the current emphasis on addressing some of the societal issues in providing a better environment for the individual to thrive. There’s been a series of  wonderful worldwide conferences from the Baha’i community that have been emphasizing building societies based on unity, justice, spirituality, an attitude of service, and a holistic healthy approach to the individual and society.
