"This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor...Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond."
Thus reminds us the great 13th century Persian poet and mystic, Rumi! We in the western world seem too quick to identify with our fleeting thoughts and conditions. How profoundly different our attitude would be if we could approach our daily condition of mind and heart as an invitation to self-discovery and an exploration of our soul's essence. This posture allows us to push aside our subjective identification with our thoughts or even life situations. Our life situation might be sad and difficult but our life transcends that and cannot be judged in such a limited plane. So, what are the implications beyond abstract words? That we can choose to see our mental/mortal life as a teacher and a guide and joyfully participate in its sorrows and blessings. Safe journey!
